RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY WE PRAY.

MONDAY:

12:2OAM

Dead end at Taman Eastern….no way could we get back to Taman Sri Pelangi, our homebase that we left Sunday morning for Labis. Only one hotel in this side of Segamat Baru and a big FULL sign on the counter was clear enough. How will the three of us spend our time……until we are cleared to get to homebase. That was wishful thinking. At 3:00am we decided that we sleep in our cars. (Shang left during the post election PC because he had to be in KL for a meeting on Monday……he braved the floods out of Labis, thru Tenang towards Segamat. He admitted that he had never prayed so fervently every time he approached a severely flooded stretch….something to this effect: you walked on waters, get this Matrix of mine over these waters, please.

Taman Eastern was a far as he could go. Arif and I decided too to leave Labis to join Shanghai.

7:00AM

Still raining but a noodle stall had just opened opposite where our cars were parked. 4 cups of Nescafe tarik was god-sent.

12:00noon

Chew called: Where are you

Me: Stranded in Taman Eastern….can’t get into Segamat.

Chew: When did you come in?

Me: Last night and we slept in our cars.

Chew: What lah, I stay around. Stay where you are. You will stay in my house.

1:30PM

We decided to stay with Chew until we are cleared to get into homebase.Thank you Chew. Welcome bath...Ariff crashed out. Shang went to buy toiletries. I started this blog.

1:35PM

Internet connectivity kaput.

11:20PM.....

Connectivity came back.....thus this.

11:25PM

Will we be able to get back for CNYear eve family dinner?

Rain, Rain GO AWAY, Please come back another day....we pray.

PAS 2968 BN 6596 (820PM) MAJORITY 3628

BREAKING NEWS

2 DAP volunteers were detained for questioning and remains in the Tenang Police Station in Tenang Station. It has been over an hour since their detention. They went to make a police report on phantom voters.

VOTE BUYING IN TENANG?
When FMT surveyed a table in the school hall, there was a torn-up cash cheque of RM3,000, which was not addressed to anyone. On it was written: “MCA cawangan Tenang”.

HERE is the story.

+++++

BN Fears……

But BN is harbouring a new fear: a “whispering campaign” is making the rounds among Malay women and this may cause BN significant votes.

The Malay womenfolk are apparently unhappy with BN’s character assassination of PAS candidate Normala Sudirman. They are whispering their displeasure into the ears of their husbands who in turn may be casting their ballots for Normala. (FMT)

+++++
5:00pm

Polling ends. Counting is expected to begin in
about an hour. EC expects results to be out by
8pm.

4:43pm
Arif: On the way to Felda Tenang BY BOAT.

4:40pm voters turnout is at 68.68% or 10,133 voters.

I have reservations about the reported 65% voter turnout. Many polling stations have been cut off by flood waters and boats have just been deployed.

4:20pm
Arif: urgent boat rescue required at Jalan Ah Kiang near Payah Merah....

Please....if you can help alert the authorities.

4:19pm
Arif: Felda Tenang is totally inaccessible by vehicle. Voters can park at Payah Merah and army transport by BOAT is available. Syabas Tentera.

4:15pm
Shang: 52% at JKK Labis.....total voters 1274. Everybody is soaked....and I am looking for a modest location to pee.....if my pants is wet, as it is already, you know I had to take emergency measures.

Shang....do what comes naturally in such unnatural situation.....cheers buddy.

412pm: YB Salehudin Ayob just walked in. He tells me that 65% have voted....despite such harsh conditions. He also tells me that EC need not extend time of voting! Thats pretty harsh!

4:10pm

Arif: Police need to be called to man traffic 2km before Labis. Anyone staying near the Labis police station please relay this urgent news.

4:05pm

The flood has cut off the SMK Kamarul Ariffin, the polling center for Bandar Labis Tengah from the town area. Those registered to vote there are not able to vote at this time. The situation has not improved.

3:58pm
Arif: Road from Muar into Labis is cut off.

PLEASE DO NOT CALL ME.
I HAVE TO HANDLE SMS FROM ARIF AND STEPHEN AND WILL NOT BE ANSWERING ANY CALLS EXCEPT FROM OUR TWO ON THE ROAD.
IF YOU ARE NOT RECEIVING UPDATES FAST ENOUGH, BEAR WITH US AS WE ARE NOT WORKING UNDER IDEAL CONDITIONS. A BIT OF HELP WOULD HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE.....BUT WE WILL DO OUR BEST WITH WHAT WE HAVE....THANKS TO ARIF AND SHANGHAI.

+++++

TURNOUT OF CHINESE VOTERS IN LABIS TOWN IS WORRYING DAP. YB TEO'S TWEET IS URGING THEM TO COME OUT.

+++++

3:40pm Received this SMS: Agi Idup, agi ngalaban. May Allah bless you and your friends. Thank you 0127628926

3:36PM
Shang: Police wont allow us to proceed to Kg Redong, Pekan Ayer Panas.....road is blocked. I am knee-deep in water.

+++++

This by elections should be stopped until FAIR conditions prevail. I have received sms on discrimination in transporting voters to poll stations. SEVERAL POLLING STATIONS ARE INACCESSIBLE. THIS IS NOT A FAIR BY ELECTIONS AND THIS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE DEPENDENCE OF THE EC ON THE BN. Pakatan Rakyat must initiate a protest to the EC to stop this travesty.

+++++

3:30pm

Whilst Arif and Shanghai find their way around HERE are events as reported by Malaysiakini early on.

3:35pm

Shang: I am going around in circles! Need GPS badly!

3:32pm

Arif: Chemplak Barat turnout 63%...official.

3:20pm

Shang: Extension of voting time on sms is a hoax. Hishamuddin also caugh in this crawl. He came out of his car waving....no kris.

3:10pm
Shang: i cant move....news that a bridge collapsed near Bandar Labis Tengah.I am turning back to Labis town.

++++++++++++

TODAY, i experienced Murphy's Law (what can happen will happen) from the word GO. Arif is overing the Tenang district and Shanghai from Sawar Baru to Chemplak.
At the DAP centreI lost connectivity.....the phone just went kaput.

Am now at the PAS media centre and we are ready to roll. The rain of course has not abated. Arif could not get out from Kampong Redong as a tree got uprooted. The army is doing all they can to clear the road. Shanghai is completely drenched but carrying on.

WHAT THEY REPORTED EARLIER

Arif: At Tenang Station turnout was just 12%.
Shang: caught in a massive crawl and just arrived at Bandar Labis Timor....voter turnout less than 15%.

Arif: Sawar Baru main road is not accessible....flood at chest level and inaccessible to passenger cars....thank God we have Desmond's Discovery. Voter turnout seems to be some 60%.
Shang: I can't move. Watching a good smaritan untie five cattle that would be drowned if not for this stranger....locals say he is not owner of the cattle. Good omen?

*****
SOME BACKGROUND
There are 12 polling districts, each with a polling station. This rural state seat in northern Johor consists of three Felda settlements, five traditional Malay kampong, three Chinese new villages, 25 modern residential areas, one government quarters, four Indian estates and two Orang Asli villages.

Malays make up 47.5 percent of the total voters, followed by Chinese (39 percent), Indians (12 percent) and other races (1.3 percent).

TODAY ON THE MATS.

The outcome is predicted to be obvious - Johor being a BN stronghold. But Pakatan, the challenger will fight tooth and nail to reduce the majority. On nomination day the books stood at BN winning with a majority of 3000. According to bookies Muhudin’s boast of 5000 winning majority is a pipe dream. Bookmakers at Labis town says the majority may be less than 2000 after witnessing the ceremah crowd pick up bigger audiences over the last three days, this despite the fact that Pakatan were refused permits for ceremahs to be held in open space, like fields. Fairness, of course has never been the game played by the BN. Be that as it may Pakatan has played according to rule and a reduced majority will be a stark blow to BN, close to the count out at 10. Some did not dismiss a Pakatan win as the call to the young to come back to vote is materializing. But we believe that it will be a gallant fight from Cikgu Mala and her support teams. (NewZealander Serene, I did show her your SMS you sent me for her. She says Terima Kasih.)

This fact cannot be discounted. Felda IS BN’s fixed deposit, and a timely one too with price increases etc. The Felda elders have not awakened to the fact that whilst things look fair to them they continue to close their eyes to two factors:

1. Mismanagement at Felda (v YouTube)

2. The second generation i.e. the young are restless and have sublimated their conflicts with drugs, petty crimes, unemployment and all the attendant negatives ensuing from such frustrations.

However, though a mite too late for Tenang, there is an awakening amongst Felda Settlers to right the wrongs inflicted on them. PAS’ ANAK is making significant contributions to check the fat cats in Felda. Felda countered it with their BAPAK whose wobbly baby-steps prompted UMNO to form another group to compliment BAPAK.

PKR too has joined in to fight for the Felda settlers. Yesterday some 23 Felda settlers scored a victory when the High Court here today set aside an injunction preventing them from clearing their own land without outside interference.

Previously, two groups of Felda settlers won their case respectively against Felda at Federal Court and Kuantan High Court last year.

They are from Felda Kemahang 3 and Felda Sungai Koyan 2 and 3 respectively.

It is a good sign that the settlers are fighting back. It may not affect Tenang tomorrow but anything can happen. Patients, unexpectedly have come out of comas, yes?

But it sure is bad news for the market....the appointment of a "felon" as Chairman of Felda but probably good ammunition for ANAK!

Time to crawl into my sleeping bag as we have an early day today.

JUST SOME QUESTIONS.

IF THE TENANG INDIAN POPULATION IS NOT INCENSED BY THE SUSPECT ACCQUITAL OF THE CONSTABLE V NAVINDRAN I DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAN MOVE THE TENANG INDIANS. HOW THEY VOTE TOMORROW? WILL THEY FORGET KUGAN SO EASILY? WILL THEY ACCEPT THE AMENDMENT IN INTERLOK SO EASILY? Dang! I have never heard of a novel being “amended”?

WILL TENANG CHINESE PARENTS SMS THEIR CHILDREN IN SINGAPORE TO MAKE THAT CRUCIAL DECISION TO COME BACK TODAY, VOTE TOMORROW AND LEAVE LATE TOMORROW?

WILL THE FELDA SETTLERS, EARNING SUFFICIENT NOW, BE ABLE TO SEEK EMPLOYMENT FOR THEIR JOBLESS CHILDREN?

WILL THEIR EARNINGS TODAY PREVENT THE INCREASING DRUG ADDICTION AND BABY DUMPING PREVALENT IN THE SETTLEMENTS?

THE 1MALAYSIA NGO IS THROWING A BIG BASH FOR THE PEOPLE IN TENANG. FREE FOOD AND GOODIES AND …….

IT IS RELIABLY LEARNT THAT SIME DARBY IS DEFRAYING ALL EXPENSES.

QUESTION: DID SIME DARBY BOARD GET THE APPROVAL OF ITS SHAREHOLDERS TO BUY VOTES?

GUEST BLOGGER: ARIF ABDULL

Kenapa kita semua membiarkan diri kita menari mengikut rentak tarian pemerintah?

Pulanglah mengundi!

Selamat mengundi, Selamat Bercuti, dan Selamat Tahun Baru Cina!

That's Ariff when he was arrested. He is not really big compared to the two flanking him, yah!

THREE CRUCIAL DAYS FOR PAKATAN

Whilst DPM can kiss his 5000 majority win goodbye, it is still a difficult task for Pakatan to win this by-elections despite Cikgu Mala winning ways swinging votes to PAS and despite DAP’s concerted efforts in the three three Chinese-majority polling districts in the Tenang constituency — Labis, LabisTengah, Labis Timur . DAP must go into top gear and improve on what PAS secured in 2008 — 50 to 67 per cent of the votes. DAP Johor chairman concedes that although they are quite sure of close to 65% there are still areas of fence-sitters.

Pakatan thus far has won the visibility campaign but the last three days must see Pakatan exert more effort and leave nothing to chance, like hoping that those young men and women across the causeway and northern states will come back to vote. The general perception is that since it is near CNY, they will return. But we forget that these young voters are working in Singapore and Singapore’s work culture is different. However, this is another perception. The reality is that they could come back on a Saturday night, vote and get back to Singapore in slightly over 2 hours on Sunday. Coming back from KL too is not an impossible effort.

Pakatan wants to win and they can if they take these must-do non insurmountable steps:

From tonight on and in their ceremahs they must tell the audience to get their absent-voters working outside Tenang thru SMS to come back. Judging from the ceremahs I have attended and their enthusiastic shouts of “Huan” (change) there is no doubt that the majority of Chinese parents are already convinced that the time for change can start at Tenang. So get them to urge their young to return to vote.

It is still not too late for Pakatan to announce a meet the voters session in Singapore….cross the cause way tomorrow night, meet the boys and girls and do their magic. It’s not been done before. There is always a first time. And this may be the time.

JUST DO IT PAKATAN!

THREE CRUCIAL DAYS THAT MIGHT JUST MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

VOTING MADE EASY IN TENANG.

TO OUR CHINESE & INDIAN VOTERS IN TENANG WATCH THIS AGAIN AND THEN MAKE UP YOUR MINDS......

it has never been this easy before

UMNO says: We do not need Chinese & Indian votes!

UMNO did say this right?

So if UMNO does not want the Chinese & Indian votes, give your votes to

KFC has always been a friend indeed! You get it 24/7 during by-elections. After Sunday’s PC at Labis I decided on a KFC pack (to lunch whilst driving back to Segamat,) but MINUS the Pepsi that came with the order. This is my way of telling Johari, the MD of Permanis that I can live without Pepsi. After licking your fingers, you just need a TIGER!

I WAS NOT WRONG THEN....

I thought my last posting on the Chuas would allow me to go into other issues in the Tenang by-election. I was nasty to that group of ladies in the car park when I referred to the “money” they received in the white envelops as “peh kim”. I took it for granted that the envelops contained money - a widely perceived BN modus operandi. As an after-thought the envelops could have contained a RM50 or RM100 gift voucher. At 11:15pm I was proven wrong!

I sat next to a table of some 8 Chinese customers at Kumpung Café just off Jalan Segamat. I heard this remark: “His tee-shirt is better than ours”. I was wearing our Barisan Rakyat/MCLM tees. I asked them why was my tees better. I then noticed that each had a tee beside their drinks. One of them showed me their white tees. It was the familiar 1Malaysia tees which they were told to wear for a few hours and RM100 was theirs. They were spending their reward after fulfilling the condition and was now in their regular attire. I also elicited from them that none of them were voting in Tenang.

Dang! The Chuas are desperate. Labis is their fortress and they will not lose if without a fight, fair or otherwise. I was just wondering where the money for the thousands of tees came from? Real “chua” this father and son combo! The father will press on about voting PAS means agreeing to an Islamic state and the son has backtracked about the sale of alcohol.

What next from the Chuas?

Will they quizzically look to their Masters and ask, “…yes what next….quick.”

Will the Chinese in Tenang slither their way to the polling booth on the 30Jan. to support the BN candidate or will they give two tight slaps to the Chuas and vote for Mala?

‘TIS THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR THE SNAKES…oopppps CHUAS

Either father and son have lost their marbles or it is skin-changing season for the Chua’s. Father Snake Chua took capital issue over a latex tissue…Normala’s gloved hand.

I was taught handshake etiquette early in school. Bro Henry who was my favorite teacher telling us in Std. 5: A man should always wait for a lady to extend her hand first. In other words you do not offer your handshake to a lady and only accept them when offered.

Along those lines I remember my mum’s instruction when introduced to a lady: greet women with words (hello, how are you…) or a polite nod.

Of course I was lucky to be schooled well in St. Georges Institution, Taiping and coached well at home. I don’t know about the Chuas. It is all about good breeding, yes? And that goes for Gerakan Charboh Tau, Tan Lian Hoe too!

BIG Chua can take a lesson from Normala. It is always a lady’s right to offer her hand or otherwise. Even if Normala refuses to offer her hand in a handshake as an extension of religious modesty, what is wrong with that?

Papa Chua lost this first round and now if Little Chua does not retract by 12noon tomorrow PAS will sue for defamation in round 2. It was reported that he said that Normala asked some kopi tiam owner why he was selling beer. Will churlish Chua retract by stating the name of the outlet, the name of the owner and the time of the encounter? The clock is ticking.

….and this young labis twerp is a deputy minister? Says mighty great deal about caliber, no?

No wonder BN calun Azahar is so quiet…..others are doing the talking for him. And if he doesn’t maybe his boss Muhidin will.*

+++++

I was able to catch Normala’s press conference at the DAP media centre at noon. I came away impressed. She had presence. She answered questions fielded by a throng of reporters spontaneously, confidently, explicitly. This lady certainly has a natural flair about her….the type of gutsy flair we see in Nurul, Teo Nei Chin, Janice, Theresa, Chong Eng, Fong Po Kuan, Eli Wong. VIVA Ladies of Pakatan.

+++++

At the end of a photoshoot session Normala gave her personalized CNY greeting cards to everyone present at the PC. No wonder Ishak said when we met earlier at the PAS media centre......"DAP is going all out to help PAS!"

THESE TWO WERE PROUD TO HELP OUT IN TENANG.

IT IS CLASS THAT MATTERS!

SHANGHAI FISH ON NOMINATION DAY IN TENANG

Go

HERE

SAME SONG, DIFFERENT SINGER.

THIS time around the singer is the MCA. They decided that Najib made a mess in Sibu with this infamous one-liner. As such the father, son and some mysterious donor-spirit team want to prove to UMNO that it is more effective if the Chinese sweet-talk the Chinese.

Cloth, milo, cash were generously distributed by recruited locals who lined up for free 1Malaysia tees and some cash. Who donated these goodies? MCA says it is not them. It must have dropped from heaven, looks that way! Dang! I couldn’t make it in time to Labis and an elderly ah soh told me that I missed it by minutes. As I approached another ah soh who had a goody bag in each had and asked for one bag she made a face and said, “boh liau” (no more!). I protested that she had two but she just walked away with her treasures.

Whilst walking towards my car, a group of Chinese ladies were animatedly examining their goody bags. Knowing what those white envelops contained I asked them where they got their “peh kim” from? I knew I embarrassed them as they immediately split, some throwing empty white envelops on the pavement. When Chinese visit a bereaved family they put their donation in a white envelop. This is “peh kim”. OF COURSE I WAS BEING NASTY. NASTINESS BEGETS NASTINESS.

Malaysiakini has the story HERE.

+++++

Met up with some Segamat friends over dinner and learnt that the owner of that plot of land on which sits the BN operation complex is richer by RM130,000, Some enterprising people in Merlimau will jostle to close their car-park lots and offer their space to BN.

WILL THE CHINESE EVER LEARN?

They never will as long as they think that only MCA can help them.

They still believe that MCA cares for them.

And now the Chinese are threatening: BUILD OUR SCHOOL OR LOSE TENANG! HERE

Lu tolong gua, gua tolong lu is bargaining!

You don’t bargain with people who do not keep their promises!

You teach them a lesson.

You vote them out of Tenang!

BN leaders have always boasted that they DO NOT NEED CHINESE AND INDIAN VOTES.

Make them eat their boasts!

Will the Chinese in Tenang have the LUMPAH to show that in Tenang, the Chinese vote counts!

I hope the Chinese in Tenang HAVE!

WE WILL CHOP OFF THE HANDS OF THIEVES, YAH?

STADIUM KELANA JAYA, my neighborhood stadium has always been the home of the annual COBRA SEVENS. I have never missed those annual weekends. Invariably I will bump into Nordin Manan, swig beers the whole day and end up cheering for the wrong team!

But on September 16, 2008, Stadium Kelana Jaya was MAGIC! Some 30,000 of us gathered to celebrate Malaysia Day and also to protest the illegal detention of RPK and MP Theresa Kok.

These pics by TV Smith need no further comment.

Come 23 January, at this same venue the people of Selangor will gather to protest the arbitrary appointment of a state secretary who has repeatedly and deviously exhibited his inordinate association with the BN government. This and many other BN agents are out to rob you of the Pakatan government that YOU installed on 8 March 2008. They want to take back Selangor from you.

YOU CANNOT ALLOW THIS!

CAN YOU?

They won't if you can better the numbers on 16 September 2008!

THINK ABOUT THIS.

LATER TODAY:

WAH! WE ARE TOP FIVE!
